The trend of unmarried life
or celibacy has risen with the advancement of society. It has now become a fashion of modern society. Modern people as well as religious minded people have been adopting it.
The trend of unmarried life
or celibacy creates a lot of social and medical problems. Problems resulting
from celibacy are rare among the Muslims but common in the society having
trend of celibacy or in the followers of celibate life. In England, America,
Japan and Russia, the trend of celibacy is increasing with the advancement
of society. In India too, this trend has been rising among males and females.
Factors Contributing to Celibacy:
- Advancement of society.
- Dowry system.
- Religious traditions.
- Urge to be sophisticated.
- Aping the western civilization.
- Wrong beliefs and ignorance.
- Lack of interest in marriage life among the celibate minded people.
- Considering marriage as a barrier in carrier building.
- Considering marriage as a bondage.
- Changing in thoughts and lifestyle.
- Availability of promiscuous society.
- Negligence on the part of youth’s parents.
There is much importance
of married life in medical as well as social science. Married life prevents
human beings from a lot of medical and social problems. An unmarried man
or women may fall pray to a lot of medical as well as social problems.
Problems caused by unmarried life or celibacy are:
Medical Problems:
-
Breast carcinoma in female.
-
Endometrial carcinoma.
-
Malignant ovarian tumours.
-
Fibroid in female.
-
Anxiety and irritability.
-
Depression.
-
Sleep disorders.

Social Problems:
Feel themselves alone and unsafe particularly in old age.
May have feeling of worthlessness or guilt due to missing marriage opportunity.
Can do suicidal attempts due to frustration.
May be pessimist in old age.
May not get as such social respect as married people.
May have poor social adjustment.

May be involved in sexual promiscuity e.g. illegal sexual relations, rape etc.
May be involved in sexual perversion, e.g., masturbation, exhibitionism, voyeurism, undinism.
May be involved in unnatural sex, e.g., sodomy, tribadism, bestiality etc.
May be regular onlooker of blue films and pornographic photographs.
Thus it is clear that unmarried life is medically and socially harmful for human beings and is purely a non-Islamic tradition. There is no concept or trend of unmarried life or celibacy in Islam. Islam has strictly forbidden unmarried life, sexual promiscuity, sexual perversions, unnatural sex, prostitution and drug abuse.
The tradition of marriage
in Islam is a Sunnah of the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam).
Islam has strictly advised Muslims for following the Sunnah of the Holy
Prophet (Sallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam). The world can see how one single
Sunnah of the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) can save the
believers and those who follow him from a lot of medical and social problems.
Indeed, Islam is the only
religion that promises healthy body as well as healthy society. Always
remember "life without life partner is useless and meaningless". If we
want to escape the curse of unmarried life or celibacy, we have to follow the Sunnah of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Sallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam).
